Fall is a comin’ – The Harvest Season Fall Hair Care Tips

By |September 11th, 2014|Curls|4 Comments

Hello Curlies!

Fall, my favorite season. It is pretty much here already. I just love the leaves crunching beneath my feet, the deliciousness of pumpkin spice lattes, the sweet pungent smell of cinnamon, the beautiful fall color palette, the sophisticated fall fashion, pea coats, cute scarves, apple picking, sweet potato pies, warm sweaters, the crisp fall air, sweet apple cider with donuts, hay rides, and comfort food. I could go on and on.
Fall Hair Care Tips
It is also the season to start prepping for the extreme weather conditions. The summer months were hot and humid so it is now time to put away some of those gels and humectant products and take out the moisturizers and deep conditioners (those should never really be put away anyway). The autumns months contain the most perfect weather conditions for natural hair because it’s not too hot, not too cold, not too humid, and not too dry. At least that is how the weather is in the Midwest.

FAQs – Frequently Asked Questions (Natural Hair)

By |August 20th, 2014|Curls|4 Comments

Hello Curly Queens,

I have been asked a number of questions and I figured it would be easiest to just answer all of them on the blog. Some of these are questions that people have asked me via email, instagram, Facebook, and in person.

Q. I only wear weave and braids. I never wear my hair while I am transitioning. Is that okay?

Your Journey Is Not A Race With Others: Be True To Yourselves

By |August 2nd, 2014|Curls|8 Comments

My Rant:

I feel the need to address the elephant in the room. I have noticed lately that there are some naturals that aren’t being so honest when it comes to interacting with their audiences on social media, and I think that it is crazy. Why lie and become a curly imposter? Why not just keep it real? The choice to be natural is supposed to your own journey and for your own person reasons, not just because everyone else is doing it. I have watched these people on these social networks sites blatantly lie about the prepping/styling method of their hair whether it was a twist out, bantu knot out, wash & go, etc.  We can tell that your twist out is not a wash & go boo.  No one will judge or think any less of you for telling the truth. In fact, with honesty, you may be helping out someone else who has a very similar hair texture/pattern as yours. I look at it as a win-win situation. Lying just creates drama, confusion, and questions.

“I’m Not Paying That Much Money For Those Products”

By |July 10th, 2014|Curls|1 Comment

I hear this from the newbies all the time.  That and…”It costs too much money to be natural.”

It doesn’t have to. There are still good products out there for the naturals on a budget, teenagers who have allowances, or just a frugal individuals in general. When I started paying attention to the type of products that I was using in my natural hair, I was still in college so you know how that is(Ramen Noodles & chump change). Here are a list a good ol’ budget-friendly products, everything under $10. Most of this stuff (If not all) is at the drugstore or Target.

Help! I don’t understand my child’s hair.

By |March 16th, 2014|Tips|3 Comments

Sorry about the wait. I really do post more often than this but it seems like the universe didn’t want me to write a blog post. I started writing this post last week but WordPress deleted my finished post when I tried to save it. I was livid.

This post was inspired by two people. Within the past two weeks, I have had a few random people walk up to me and ask questions about my hair.

HEAT DAMAGE…What do I do about it?

By |March 2nd, 2014|Personal, Tips|0 Comments

I Hate These Unruly Straight Pieces!!!

By the way, my hair loves being cut. It looks better and cooperates more.

I just realized that I hadn’t officially completed an update of how I’m doing. I recently made the decision to go heatless. I’m not going to set a deadline of how long anymore; I will just go with the flow. If I am heatless for 6 months, great. A year? Even better. Two years? Awesome.

Miss Jessie’s products helped give my hair life.

By |February 22nd, 2014|Products, Tips|1 Comment

Ok, so this is my own opinion. No one paid me to write this or bribed me or anything like that. The fact of the matter is, is that I love Miss Jessie’s products. These products have helped me to be able to get the MOST out of my wash & go’s. (Before I was using just shea butter & pro style brown gel…I know :-O)  I’ve noticed that a lot of blogs try to bash Miss Jessie’s for not using completely natural products, but I say to each their own. I’m not one of those ingredients Nazis. I do not know if the ingredients in Miss Jessie’s are all completely natural or not. What I do know is that these products work for me and they are not hurting my hair in any type of way. In fact, my hair just seems to love it. I have been able to achieve such lovely big spirally curls from using pillow soft curls, which is a styler*.

* A styler is a product that I apply to my hair after I have thoroughly moisturized my hair. It provides a light hold for less frizz but no crunch.
