Fro Butter Review

Hello Natural Peeps,

Today, I am about to mix things up a bit. I usually do a product review and test the product on myself, but in this particular review, I used the product on my  fiancé, Taye. He has really long  beautiful locs. Since I normally do his hair all the time anyway, I thought this would be a perfect opportunity to feature his locs in this product review.

The product is called Fro Butter, have you heard of it?

About Fro Butter

There are four different types to choose from. There is Jamaican Black Castor Oil, Peppermint Oil, Emu Oil, and Fro Butter Baby. The Jamaican black castor oil butter helps reduce shedding and helps those with thinning hair. The peppermint oil butter is really beneficial for course and dry hair. The peppermint in the formula helps relieve a dry, itchy scalp. It is perfect for locs and twists. The emu oil butter is great for those who are having a hard time getting their hair to grow. It also helps heat damaged hair. The fro butter baby is a formula that works for all hair types. It is rich in carrot seed oil and leaves hair feeling soft and hydrated.

How I used Peppermint Fro Butter for locs

Here is how his locs looked before getting started.

Messy right?

Step 1: I washed his hair with the Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Line and dried his sopping wet locs with a towel. It’s important to use a clarifying shampoo on locs because there usually is a lot of dirt and build up.

Step 2: I put his hair into a ponytail and starting at the back. I pulled out one loc to work on at a time.

Step 3: I separated the roots so that I could see the parts clearly.

Step 4: I applied a generous amount of peppermint fro butter to the roots of his locs.

Step 5: When re-twisting locs, one thing you want to avoid over-twisting them so that you won’t experience any thinning, breakage, or damage to the hair. I twisted the frizzy hairs around the length of the locs in a clockwise direction. One sign of over-twisting is if  it starts to coil at the root.

Step 6: I rolled each loc between my hands and  twisted the locs to the right (clockwise) until the root was fully twisted.

Step 7: I pinned the loc with a duck-bill clip to keep the twist.

Step 8: I let his locs air dry for about an hour and then I dried them with a blow dryer.

Taye really liked how the cooling peppermint soothed his normally itchy scalp. The product made his locs really shiny, moisturized, and neat. It was the perfect combination of oils and butters mixed together for anyone with loc’d hair. I plan on trying it as well when I switch back to butters and heavier creams for the winter.
