Get Ready For The Hot Weather With These 10 Pre-Summer Beauty & Natural Hair Tips.

1. Stay moisturized.

Whenever the weather stops being so dry, we tend to let up on the moisturizer, but do not skip it completely. A solid moisturizing routine can do so many beneficial things for your complexion! Dry skin doesn’t look good on anyone, so apply a daily facial moisturizer to protect it from drying agents like the sun, salt, and chlorine.

2. Exfoliate.

A gentle facial exfoliation will help keep your skin free of clogged pores and create a better canvas for makeup application. Reserve your exfoliating time for the evening because newly exfoliated skin can be sensitive. Try following up with a facial icing to close pores. Facial icing simply means rubbing an ice cube on your face until it melts.

3. Seasonal Makeup.

Change up your shades. People usually get darker in the summer and lighten up in the winter. As your skin gets a bit more melanin, you may need a different shade of foundation and concealer to accommodate the changes between your winter and summer skin. If you don’t like foundation, you can even opt for a bb cream a shade darker than you’d wear in winter. One of my personal favorites, is the Maybelline Dream Fresh BB 8-In-1 Beauty Balm Skin Perfector, which has an SPF of 30.

4. Try A Lip Stain.

In summer, lip stains are a better choice. Lip Stains feel barely there and won’t come off super easy with sweating.

5. Go Waterproof.

In the summertime, we are a lot more active and do more activities involving water to cool down. Try a waterproof mascara to avoid raccoon eyes. Also, to avoid those awful under-eye smears, try not to apply mascara on your lower lashes.

6. Curls & Dew Points.

To better understand your curls in the summer, get acquainted with dew points and how it relates to humidity.

Dry Dew Point: Cold Weather/No Humidity
– Typically the winter months.
– Avoid humectants.
– Use leave in conditioners.
– Use light hold products.
– Use plenty of emollients (moisturizing oils, butters).

High Dew Point: Hot Weather/High Humidity
– May skip a leave in conditioner.
– Hard hold products like gels. You will want to control your hair.
– May want to avoid humectants.
– Use emollients.

7. Drink Water.

Hydrate inside and out! According to health websites, you’re supposed to drink your body’s weigh in water everyday. It’s good for your skin and hair.

8. Refrigerate Your Leave-in Conditioner.

Not only will this feel refreshing after your washing session, it will also help define your curls and help make them clump.

9. Put Away The Heat.

If you heat style often, you might want to reconsider doing so in the summer. You’ll only get frustrated. Instead, work in styles like wash & gos, twists, braids and other protective styles.

10. Plan Accordingly.

Don’t waste your time doing so many twist-outs, braid-outs, and roller sets. If the humidity is high where you are, your efforts will be wasted. Your smooth curly roller set will quickly become a frizzy, curly fro (Unless that’s the look you were going for). Instead, opt for a wash & gos, possibly a top knot, or other protective styles such as braids or twists. Even investing in cute, floppy summer hats will protect your hair and add style to your summer outfit.
